Brazil Baby!

Boa Tarde! Tudo Bom? As most of you know, Lisa and I just got back from a 10-day trip to Brazil to visit one of my best friends from Jr. High / High School, Dave Youmans, and his fabulous spouse, Brooke, in Salvador, where they're living for 9 months while Brooke does research on the Fulbright (or as she refers to it, "halfbright") Scholarship's dime. As there's not so much really to do tourist-wise in Salvador, we pretty much did like the locals do and chilled out, relaxed on the beach, ate some great food, sipped some fruity drinks and checked out some cool music and cultural events. Dave and Brooke live in massive (even by American standards) apartment across the road from Porto da Barra (pronounced ba-ha) beach, one of the most popular in the area, so we were in an ideal location to experience the city.

After our time with them, Lisa and I took a 2 1/2 hour boat ride South along the coast to the island of TinharĂ© (teen-yar-ay), also known as Morro (mo-ho) de Sao Paulo after the main village on the Northern-most (closest to Salvador) part of the island where all the action is. We took the deserted-island-beach-all-to-yourself approach and stayed a 25-minute shuttle ride down the island's only (dirt) road at Anima Hotel. Our time there was magical, romantic, and utterly relaxing as we enjoyed resting in the hammocks strung up on our porch, laying by the pool, meandering up and down the practically deserted beach and enjoying the restaurant's amazing food and top-notch service.
